batley-vintage-day next date: 25 may 2019 from 10:00 to 17: 00, market place menu skip to content home entertainment dance market vehicles workshops contact fly past display search for: home is having a break this year we will be back with you in 2019 thank you one and all for all your support of the event so far, and we look forward to seeing you all again next year….. well, we may have had a little bit of rain!! but it certainly didn’t dampen the spirits of the many thousands of people who came along to the fourth on saturday 27 may 2017, as the town centre came alive to the sights and sounds of yesteryear. with the market place packed with more stalls than in previous years there were plenty of vintage treats to be had. and leading the main stage again mr paul harper introduced us all to a line up of music from the 30s through to the 60s, with the return of some batley favourites and some new bands who certainly had the crowds up dancing. once again we were treated to an amazing line up of vintage vehicles, with exhibitors travelling from all over to show off their pride and joy. with everything from two seater roadsters to old bt van, there was plenty to see. the library again proved what a valuable local resource it is, and enjoyed a record number of visitors enjoying and learning vintage crafts and arts, from making peg dolls, through to helping out with a sgt pepper collage. in the memorial gardens visitors enjoyed living history exhibits, found out about local cadet groups, and took a step back in time. in our 60s zone thanks to creative scene visitors relived the early years, and the music and styles of batley variety club, had their photos taken in a groovy camper van and also unleashed their inner hippy with some flower power art. and then enjoy some vintage games such as hopscotch. and it wouldn’t be vintage day without mrs m’s naafi and the day long dance area. the urns were never off, and the cuppas and cake kept coming all day to refresh all our many thousands of visitors. with big george and major swing playing those 40s and early 50s sounds the dance floor was kept full throughout the day. as always there are so many things i take from the day, from catching up with our many regular visitors, to having a chat with people who had come along for the first time. admiring the fantastic and immaculate period outfits of the many reenactors, and seeing people who had taken the time to find some vintage style clothes for the day. enjoying the many talented acts on the main stage, and the wide variety of music. this year everything from the andrews sisters to the beatles, taking in west side story, grease and some amazing 50s rock and roll along the way. feeling the hairs on the back off my neck stand up as the spitfire flew low and loud over the event area, and seeing the look of awe on everyones faces as they stood looking up. but as always the one thing that stands out the most are the smiles. everywhere i looked i saw happy smiling, relaxed people. old friends stopping to say hello, complete strangers having a chat as they watched the stage or the dancers. people taking time out from the rush and hurry of everyday life to just enjoy themselves, and you know what, that makes all the time and work that goes into the day so very worthwhile. hope you can join us next time….. tweets by @1940sswingdance visitor info next event: 25 may 2019 admission free planning your trip parking information [email protected] useful links entertainment dance evening vintage market vintage vehicles workshops contact fly past display sponsors & partners follow us on © . all rights reserved site by ‹ › × menu title entertainment dance evening vintage market vintage vehicles workshops contact fly past display ×
